The Game UN:Me: An Cerebral Horror That Blends Silent Hill and Among Us Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase revealed a number of intriguing future games, but one in particular has captured attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience seems to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.

"It's a unique game where a young woman harboring multiple human souls within her must escape from a labyrinth of the mind," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of high school age. Within her reside four distinct personas, each with unique anxieties and drives. These souls can seize control at will, releasing their deep-seated terrors upon her without warning.

Judging by revealed footage, much of the narrative takes place within a eerie medical facility, while other scenes depict the main character navigating a abandoned chapel.

An Environment of Individual Dread

"What are you afraid of? What causes you uneasy?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. People in power. Things that seem trivial to other people can trigger something primal inside us. This game explores that idea — fears that are specific to every individual."

The central gameplay loop revolves around controlling the persona that emerges at a particular time. However, these identities will change against your will as you play. During exploration, every persona's anxieties become amplified and assault the girl in succession. As the persona changes, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Eerie Visuals and a Fatal Decision

Initially, UN:Me displays noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is filled with nurses who all share the same face, with disturbingly broad grins. Patients in the lobby have large blooms where their necks are. Floral motifs are an ever-present element, contrasting organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular twist. Players must determine which of the four entities inhabiting the heroine is the "real" one. "All four souls claims that the physical form is rightfully them," explains a creator. "During the game, you need to figure out who is real."

Once players have deduced a soul is fake, they must eliminate it. But, because every entity can lie or obfuscate the reality, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the real [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The final entity remaining might be a fake. In any case, your choices are irreversible."

UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced launch window, but it is can be follow on platforms.
