Iran Claims Assault on American Facility in the Kingdom of Bahrain, During Regional Counterattacks.
Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in response for a "massive" and continuing offensive against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area close to the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any damage is unclear and the American officials has not commented.
Regional Interceptions
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to American military installations - reported they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their airspace.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on locations linked to the the regime, with President Trump calling on the people of Iran to revolt against the government.
Wider Impacts
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the UAE stated that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the projectiles with great effectiveness and shot down a several projectiles," it added.
Officials reported wreckage fell on a neighborhood in the capital, resulting in some structural damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
