Dame Helen Mirren Set to Receive Globes' Career Honor.
The distinguished English actor Helen Mirren, previously recipient of an Oscar, four Baftas, three Golden Globes, five Emmy Awards, and a Tony, will soon earn an additional esteemed prize to her collection: the Cecil B. DeMille Globes' lifetime honor.
Honors Presentation
The actress, 80, who was given a damehood back in 2003 and honored as a BAFTA fellow in the year 2014, will receive the accolade at an event on the eighth of January, shortly before the Golden Globes main event are held, as part of a ceremony promoted by the Globes as the Golden Eve event.
This will also include the presentation of the Golden Globes’ Carol Burnett prize for small-screen contributions, the honoree for which has yet to be announced. Previous recipients included Viola Davis and Ted Danson.
“Helen Mirren is a powerhouse performer, with a career is truly extraordinary,” stated the organization’s president, president of the Golden Globes. “Her captivating roles and commitment to her craft continue to inspire numerous actors and viewers as well. We are deeply honored to present her with the DeMille prize.”
Professional Journey
The star became well-known back in the 70s via important performances in theater at London’s West End and with the Royal Shakespeare Company as well as in movies such as O Lucky Man!, Caligula & The Long Good Friday.
Back in the 90s, her starring role in the crime series Prime Suspect expanded her audience further. Other important films feature Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park & Calendar Girls.
She won an Oscar for her portrayal as the Queen in 2006 film The Queen, a part she returned to back in 2013 within The Audience, Peter Morgan’s play concerning the sessions involving the monarch and premier Margaret Thatcher, and for which Mirren won a Tony during 2015.
Current and Forthcoming Appearances
- More recent films feature Hitchcock, The Last Station, Woman in Gold, The Debt, Golda & Barbie, which she narrated.
- Mirren’s turn in the Netflix adaptation for The Thursday Murder Club has received positive reviews and honors speculation is increasing around her performance as an ailing family head in the film by Kate Winslet first directing effort, Goodbye June.
- Upcoming, audiences will see Mirren portraying Patricia Highsmith in Anton Corbijn’s drama, Switzerland.
Golden Globe nominations are set to be revealed on 8 December, including Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet and Coogler’s Sinners expected to feature heavily.
